Last year (2008), I brought home a piece of moss which had fallen off a steep rocky cliff, and planted it on a steep bank which is being converted from snowberry to wildflowers. A small seedling in the moss grew and flowered and set seed. This spring, the bare soil of the bank was covered with seedlings which grew into this -- and dozens of others.
