Seed. The embryo can be seen within the seed coat. These seeds are very small, light, and disperse easily on the wind. They lack any nutrient storage. They depend on landing in a spot where they can form an association with a suitable mycorrhizal fungus in order to germinate and provide sustenance for the emerging seedling. Most seeds are not successful in this. Photomicrograph was taken using transmitted light. Collected 01 Nov 2020.
