Species Information

Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 33; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 31 - 32. Eye large, about 1/2 head length; scales with a central ridge on interorbital, nape, belly and bases of soft dorsal and anal fins.

Young oceanic; adults near bottom. Deep-water; 2°C - 4°C. Marine; bathydemersal; oceanodromous; depth range 366 - 732 m. Max length : 42.0 cm TL male/unsexed; common length : 35.1 cm male/unsexed; max. published weight: 1,300 g.

North Pacific: Japan to Bering Sea and to southern central California, USA. Karrer 1990 (Ref. 6545) notes that records of Allocyttus verrucosus from the North Pacific belong to Allocyttus folletti.
