Introduction


This species was first reported in BC by biologist Russ Pym in September 2016 at three sites. These are the first BC and Canadian records. His observations were:

1) several males and females at a pond near the entrance to the Liquidity Winery in Okanagan Falls (49.32553°N, 119.54993°W) on 26 September 2016; one male was photographed.

2) The same day, he recorded a female at a pond across the road from Walnut Beach Resort, Lakeshore Drive, Osoyoos (49.01825°N, 119.43580°W).

3) The next day, 27 September 2016, Russ photographed a lone male (attached) along the boardwalk to the bird blind at the north end of Vaseaux Lake (49.30348°N, 119.53696°W).

A very large brown spreadwing with white-striped thorax.


Flight Period


Distribution


Ranges from Baja California north through California, Arizona, Oregon and Washington State. Only recently was it documented in BC.
