Distribution of Asteronyx loveni in British Columbia in British Columbia

Introduction


Asteronyx loveni is a wide-ranging species globally, including a disjunct distribution in the Pacific Ocean; in North America, it is found south to Baja, California, where it is occurs at depths ranging from 100 to 4721 (usually 300-600) m (Lambert and Austin 2007). It is a reddish-orange species (dorsal) with a large disc relative to the arms that is up to 45 mm in diameter (Lambert and Austin 2007). It is a euryalyne species that is often found attached to sea pens, sea whips and sea fans (Barker 2000, Lambert and Austin 2007, NOAA 2011).
