Introduction

The Canada Goose and the Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii{i/}) were split by the American Ornithologists Union (AOU) in 2004.

Four subspecies of the Canada Goose are present in BC:

Branta canadensis moffitti
Branta canadensis parvipes
Branta canadensis occidentalis
Branta canadensis fulva

The subspecific designation of introduced resident populations across southern portions of the province is unknown and complicated by releases of non-native subspecies and captive-bred intergrades.
