Introduction


The Oriental or Manchurian Cecina is an introduced invasive species found in the Northwest Pacific, ranging from "the Northern coast of Japan to central part of Honshu Island, to southern Sea of Okhotsk and south to Mys Terpeniya Cape and Iturup Island.... [It is] an amphibious mollusk occurring in the littoral zone, above the high tide mark (spray zone), usually associated with oyster beds" (Sealifebase 2011). Carleton (1992) reports that it may be found by digging down inside piles of old oyster shells in damp rich organic debris, and at the base of the salt marsh plant Salicornia.

Reported by Graham Gillespie from one location in BC, in the Strait of Georgia (USGA 2011).
