Although it had never been recorded in B.C. before, the two provincial records of this species occurred amazingly within the same month in 2006. Rather than simple coincidence, this strongly suggests that some event had pushed a number of Lesser Nighthawks into the Pacific Northwest at that time. The occurrence of one of these individuals from pelagic waters 50 miles off Vancouver Island is particularly remarkable.
