Introduction


The Japanese or Northern Sea Nettle is a large, pelagic jelly that occurs in the North Atlantic, North Pacific and Arctic Oeans (Raskoff and Hopcroft 2010, Sealifebase 2011). The bell of this species may be up to 60 cm long and the tentacles may be more than 3 m long (Raskoff and Hopcroft 2010).
