Distribution of Mytilus trossulus in British Columbia in British Columbia

Introduction

Mytilus edulis, M. galloprovincialis and M. trossulus are present in BC and all three hybridize freely, making morphological identification difficult. M. edulis, M. galloprovincialis and their hybrids are more abundant in the south (particularly the Strait of Georgia and Barkley Sound) while M. trossulus is found throughout BC and is likely alone in more northern waters (Gillepsie, pers. com. 2011).
