Introduction


The Fisher is a medium-sized North American mammal in the weasel family with the typical long weasel type of body. It has large ears, short legs, large feet, and is brown (may look black from a distance) with a grizzled look on the front (eyes to shoulders) and some mottling on the chest and abdomen (Hatler et al, 2008,

In British Columbia, the Fisher is widespread. It is primarily found in the central interior and the Peace regions--it does not occur on the coastal islands (Hatler et al. 2008). It is mostly found in forest habitat, primarily older coniferous forests (showing preference for closed canopies) where it scavenges and hunts, preying on small mammals (Hatler et al. 2008).
