Notes These small shrimps are very common but almost never seen unless deliberately searched for in the burrows of the Blue mud shrimp, Upogebia pugettensis. The easiest way to collect is to use a 'yabby pump', a sturdier version of the slurp-gun used by divers to collect small fish. The pump forcibly removes sand, water, and occupants of deep burrows. Members of the genus Betaeus are distinguished by having their eys underneath the front edge of the carapace. A similar species, B. setosus differs in
