This chiton is quite similar to the very closely related Mopalia spectabilis, in fact genetic evidence shows the the two species only recently separated. M. ferreirai has denser, more 'moss-like' girdle hairs than does M. spectabilis. Photo taken with Pentax Optio W10 underwater camera submerged in tidepool.
