Comments common name '' yellow-bellied sapsucker'' on the west coast they have a red head nape and throat. sapsuckers do not have barbed tongues and cant get the wood-boring insects from trees. so they drill holes in birch trees or orchard trees and eat the sap and insects that get caught in the sap.
