Comments ID by Libby Avis: "The "eye" on the underwing is an open pale blue circle with a dark centre. In Paonias excaecatus (a similar species), the Blinded Sphinx, the "eye" is reduced to a blue blob or line, giving the impression of a closed eye. Bottom of the wing is also very wavy in P. excaecatus."
