Mature specimens of this species look very much like Pacific Ocean perch (Sebastes alutus). When the color is fresh (as in photo) the green mottling around red-bordered lateral line is distinctive. Also, S. proriger never has head spine #3, while S. alutus commonly does. One way I have found to tell them apart (especially when color is faded) is to count the soft rays of the anal fin. Sebastes proriger usually has six, rarely seven, while S. alutus almost always has seven or eight.
