The blue mud shrimp is very common in muddy and sandy areas, but difficult to extract from its deep burrows. They are sometimes encountered by clam diggers or exposed when overturning deeply buried rocks. I use a yabby pump, a suction device that extracts the shrimp and their associated commensals from the burrow. The bluish molts of these are sometimes found in the drift line.
