This large hermit crab is most often seen when captured in crab or shrimp pots but juveniles are occasionally seen in the lowest intertidal. The large size, black corneas on eyes, and long dactyls ('feet' of walking legs) very long and appearing slightly twisted, are distinctive. Photo taken with a Pentax Optio W10 underwater camera submerged in a shallow aquarium.
