A very common urchin, this species seems to tolerate greater extremes of salinities than do other echinoids. Specimens found in shallow water are easily distinguished from our other species, but in the deeper subtidal S. pallida may also be common. Photo taken with a Pentax Optio W10 underwater camera submerged in shallow aquarium.
