With Pagurus confragosus and P. cornutus the only three hermits in the PNW that have a raised triangular plateau on the right claw (although many have a ridge of the left claw only). In P. tanneri the claws are relatively longer and the 'triangle' of right claw is not raised to form knob or horn at apex. Specimen was recovered from stomachs of Dover Sole and dried, missing left claw and some walking legs. Photo just to illustrate key characters.
