Comments This deepwater species is immediately recognizable by the brilliant (here faded somewhat) violet color on the claws. The walking legs are red or orange with white polka-dots. For preserved material in which the color is lost the carpus of the right claw (carpus is the next segment toward the body after the claw 'hand', in this genus usually the widest part of big claw) has a single row of blunt spines running lengthwise.
