Comments	The shipworm is an all too common pest. In the age of mainly wooden ships these unusual bivalves were often the end of a boat's life. The greatly reduced bivalved shell are used to bore long tunnels into wood. The 'pallets' protect the opening to the burrow where the clam's siphons protrude.
