Mopalia spectabilis is a common chiton, usually under rocks in the lowest tide zone. I find these most often in areas where the rocks are heavily encrusted with bryozoans, hydroids, and other sessile animals. The plates of this chiton often have turquoise zigzag lines. The girdle hairs are of medium length and moss-like. Photo taken with Pentax Optio W10 underwater camera.
