Comments Killdeer will feign injury in an attempt to lead a threat away from a nest site or from their young chicks. They are very vocal and will lay on the ground with what appears to be a broken wing.As one comes for a closer look the Killdeer will move farther away and as you come closer it repeats the tactic. All the time leading the threat away from the nest or young.
