Comments Killdeer will feign injury in an attempt to lead a threat away from a nest site or from their young chicks. They are very vocal and will lay on the ground with what appears to be a broken wing.As one comes for a closer look the Killdeer will move farther away and as you come closer it repeats the tactic. All the time leading the threat away from the nest or young. This shot was taken from ground level.
