Chipping Sparrows are local but regular migrants in the Juan de Fuca region. They have been found breeding a couple of times in a select few locations. Winter records are extremely rare. This bird is unusual in that it is an adult in winter plumage. Most lost songbirds often turn out to be immatures doing their first migration.
